Join me on the journey to know Christ more!
Hey everyone! This is the first post in a five part series on Scripture memory! I can't take full credit for these tips as some of them I learned from others and then adapted to better fit my personal learning style. These tips aren't a one size fits all type thing. It takes practice, time and testing to see which one works best for you! With that said, I hope you will stick around and learn my 5 top tips to excel at Scripture memory. I had the pleasure to participate in The National Bible Bee for several years of my life. Over time I got asked many questions about how I memorize Scripture, what are my favorite resources and methods, etc. In this series I would like to answer those questions with my 5 top tips for memorizing scripture swiftly and efficiently! Let's get started with tip #1 1. Put Scripture to music Music is key. Why?
How many of you can name the top 10 trending Christian songs right now? I bet a lot of you could name them off pretty quick. Our brains have a way of remembering music and anything associated with it. We can easily recall little ditties, commercial songs, soundtracks and even songs of our own making. And of course, we not only remember the tune, but we remember the words to a T. That is why when we put Scripture to music, we'll be 50% more likely to remember the passage word perfect. Here are a few ideas to get you started in putting Scripture to music: - Take an old hymn and switch out the words with your choice of a Scripture verse or passage. - If you are musically inclined, compose a piece and use Scripture as the lyrics. - Take a favorite instrumental soundtrack and again, use Scripture as lyrics. - Purchase a musical Scripture CD (here are resources: Sing the Word, Seeds Family Worship and Word in the Family - note: Word in the Family has great inductive Bible Studies that have memory passages that accompany the book you're studying. They have made Scripture CDS to go along with the memory passages.) Before you know it, you will be able to sing several Scripture verses! Once you have solidified a verse, try reciting it without singing. Allow the song to be in your head as you speak the precious words of the Bible! Next week, we'll cover #2 of my top 5 tips to excel at Scripture memory! Have you struggled with Scripture memory? What are your favorite resources for Scripture music?
